Brief History:

This historically significant church once served as a refuge for the Tuticorin Our Lady of Snows statue from 1671 to 1686, leading to the statue’s alternate name “Korkkai Mother”. Catholic communities in the Korkkai region are documented from 1532-1535 across 22 villages, reflecting its ancient Christian heritage. Korkkai itself holds great historical importance as a Pandyan port city renowned for pearl fishing and maritime commerce. The original structure underwent restoration in 1978 under Rev. Fr. Oswald. A primary school was established in 1940 and later upgraded to a secondary institution in 1960.
