Brief History:
St. Francis Xavier initially established a modest chapel dedicated to St. James the Great in Manapad during 1544. The original structure was destroyed by military forces centuries later. The current grand church was reconstructed beginning in 1920, with its foundation stone laid on June 30, 1920. The building was formally consecrated on September 12, 1929, by five bishops representing multiple dioceses across India and Sri Lanka. The church features a cross-shaped architectural design with dual bell towers of 130 feet height, a central dome of 90-110 feet, and serves approximately 750 families.
