Brief History:

According to local tradition, the Christian community of Michael Palayam traces its spiritual roots to 1713, when several local residents embraced the Catholic faith. A mud-walled church was constructed in 1912, but it collapsed in 1929 while children were inside. Remarkably, no one was injured, an event that strengthened the community’s devotion to St. Michael the Archangel. A new church was subsequently built and solemnly consecrated on August 15, 1939, by Bishop Tiburtius Roche, who also named the settlement “Michael Palayam” under the protection of the Archangel. The church remains an important center of worship, with its annual feast celebrated over ten days from September 20 to September 29.
