History

St. Mary’s Church was originally a sub-station of Gokhla Parish. At first, priests visited the village to celebrate Holy Mass and care for the Catholic faithful. Later, Rev. Fr. Stanislaus Murmu TOR became the first resident parish priest. Afterwards, Rev. Fr. Michael Edamana TOR supervised the construction of the church, which was blessed in 1971.

Later, Rev. Fr. Mathew Athikalam became the first diocesan priest to serve the parish. Over the years, many dedicated priests and religious sisters helped strengthen the spiritual life of the community. Moreover, they supported people through education, healthcare, and charitable service.

Today, St. Mary’s Church serves nearly 4,000 Catholics from about 900 families across 29 villages. In addition, the parish celebrates Holy Mass, offers catechism classes, and organizes parish activities throughout the year. Furthermore, improved road and bridge facilities have made the church easier to reach for parishioners and visitors.
