Brief History:
The Madurai Mission Historical Record of 1913 cites the church of St. Thomas at Vembar. The foundation for the present church was laid by Fr. D. Swaminather in 1918 and the work was completed in 1919. Fr. Sengolmani built the new hall in 1973. Church renovation took place in 1976. In 1993 Fr. Barnabas enlarged the church, erected a steeple and beautified the church.

Vembar is a village panchayat in Thoothukudi district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Situated along the East Coast Road at the north end of the district, Vembar has two panchayats – Vembar South and Vembar North.
