Brief History:
Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Alagappapuram traces its origins back nearly two centuries. The early Catholic community embraced the Christian faith after experiencing social discrimination and received baptism through missionaries serving from Somnataperi. Worship initially took place in a private residence where an ancient statue of Our Lady of Lourdes was venerated. As the congregation grew, the place of worship evolved from a simple thatched chapel into a tiled-roof church. Following the establishment of Mannarapuram as an independent parish in 1982, Alagappapuram became one of its branch churches. Through the dedicated voluntary labour of parishioners, the present church was constructed and solemnly consecrated on May 18, 2003. Located about 1.5 kilometres from Ittamozhi on the Nagercoil–Tiruchendur Highway, the church continues to serve as a vibrant centre of Catholic faith and Marian devotion for the local community.
