Brief History:

The Catholic settlement in Samaynallur began in the late 18th century when Catholic farmers from the Puducottai region cultivated betel vines in this area. Growth accelerated when cotton mills opened on Madurai Road. The church was constructed in 1923 and currently serves as a shared parish with 14 sub-parishes including Oor Mechi Pond, Saminathan Nagar, Paravai Colony, and Sozhavanthan. Educational institutions include Saint Susaiappan Primary School, Saint Susaiappan High School, and R.C. Middle School, Sozhavanthan. The feast is celebrated in May. Buses 29A, 29B, and 71 from Madurai Central Station stop at Samaynallur.
