Brief History:

Migrants from coastal districts established this community in eastern Madurai. Members named the church after Saint Xavier (Savadi means shop) and maintained small plots through modest business profits. The parish celebrates approximately 140 years of tradition (1885-2025). The original structure with tiled roof was reconstructed into a rectangular church with an upper congregation area in 1996. A community hall with two stories was completed on September 8, 2013. The church serves 80 families as a branch of Our Lady of Sorrows Cathedral, Kizhavaasal, Madurai, with 3 associations. The feast is celebrated from November 24 to December 3.
