Brief History:

Christianity began flourishing in Vellalankulum during the 17th century. Mr. Madhavadiyaan was the first Christian convert in this region. Initial worship occurred in a thatched hut, with a statue of Mary brought from Portugal. The church evolved through various structures with a single-stone flagpole erected in 1907. The centennial celebration occurred in 2007 under episcopal leadership. The church served as a branch for multiple parishes before becoming a branch of Tirunelveli Town’s Our Lady of Refuge Church in 2005. The church serves 20 families and the feast is celebrated August 6-15 over ten days concluding with a procession.
