Brief History:
Holy Assumption Church, Mekkamandapam, traces its origins to the 16th century when locals conducted worship in a leaf structure. In 1982, plans emerged to construct a roadside chapel for community convenience and traveller safety. The foundation stone was laid in 1983 and construction was completed by August 16, 1989, when Bishop Arokiasamy consecrated the building. The parish also operates a 1910-built shrine dedicated to St. Therese of the Child Jesus, which has become a pilgrimage site. A branch of St. Anthony’s Church, Sempruttivilai, it serves approximately 112 families.
