Brief History:
Our Lady of Sorrows Church, Vellikodu, has roots traceable to 1st-century missionary work by Saint Thomas. The site was historically known as Sarva Vizhikoodu. After destruction during the Velutha Thambpi period (1802), a small shrine was rebuilt on rocky terrain. The present church was consecrated in February 1962 and the parish was elevated to independent status on June 26, 1968. The parish now serves approximately 627 Catholic families with 20 religious sisters.
