Brief History:

Founded in 1841 by Rev. Fr. Cornier, this chapel served thirty families known for deep Catholic faith, simple living, industrious work, and distinctive textile craft skills. The community was relocated from the Vathrayiruppu area. Rev. Fr. Trigal established a shrine in 1856, adding an elementary school and religious instruction programs. The structure underwent major renovations in 1938 under Bishop Leonard and again in 1988 under Rev. Fr. Victor. The chapel now features Roman architectural elements and a curved roof design. The church serves 30 families as a branch of Our Lady of Sorrows Basilica, Madurai. The feast is celebrated from June 1-13 annually.
