Brief History:

The Transport City neighborhood developed as a residential area for Tamil Nadu government transportation employees. The initial Catholic community consisted of roughly twelve families who served as witnesses to Jesus amidst neighbors of other faiths. Rev. Fr. Laurence Gabriel SJ, the former assistant priest, celebrated the first Mass in local homes. The parish secured property registration on July 31, 2002 (feast of Saint Ignatius), with support from then-Archbishop Peter Fernando. The church was consecrated on September 8, 2003. Since 2004, the Assumption celebration on August 15 has become the principal feast with a three-day festival featuring processions and community meals with interfaith participation. The church serves 15 families as a branch of the Sorrowful Mother Major Basilica, Kizhavasal, Madurai.
