History
Alavanthankulam became a branch of the Panneerkulam branch which was started in 1903 to convert the people to the Catholic faith during the period when the roots of Christianity began to spread in the Alavi land.
Various Sesu Sabha priests and Palai Diocese priests have worked at the Alavanthankulam mission site. After 2013, priests of Palai Diocese have been doing secret work.
The tower of the new temple was built for the second time in 2004 during his second term in charge.
History of Trichiluva Temple:
People used to worship by placing a cross near a place known as the ‘S’ bend in the forest on the eastern side of the town. Eventually, the place of worship was called ‘Kalvarimalai’ by the people of Alavanthankulam. However, the area was densely forested and frequented by wild animals, making it difficult for people to worship there. Also, the ancestors saw the cross being damaged by grazing goats and cows, brought the cross from there and planted it in the place where the temple is now, and built a protective wall around it with stones. After many years, during the reign of Rev. R. S. Amalraj, who was the parish priest from 1961 to 1973, a Calvary Hill-like structure was created with stones. Upon it the cross and the image of the Lord were established and dedicated to the worship of the people.
