Brief History:

St. Sebastian Church, Velankanni, was established in 1957 when local residents facing cholera and smallpox epidemics built a thatched shelter and placed a statue of St. Sebastian for veneration. Regular feast celebrations began in 1967, but a severe cyclone and flooding in 1977 destroyed the original structure. The community rebuilt it, and after a comprehensive renovation funded by youth efforts, the refurbished chapel was consecrated on August 20, 2004. The feast of St. Sebastian is observed annually from January 20 to 26.
