Brief History:
This coastal parish traces its origins to the early 16th century when the Paravas fishing community embraced Christianity. The community established their place of worship in 1549, though subsequent structures were damaged and rebuilt. The current church was constructed in 1599 and consecrated in 1600 in the name of the Mother of God. A notable statue of Mary has been preserved for over four centuries without repainting, standing as a testament to the deep Marian devotion of this ancient parish. The feast of the Assumption is celebrated from August 6 to 15 each year.
