Brief History:

The origins of St. Santhana Matha Church date back to 1914, when local villagers who had worked in Sri Lanka’s palm industry returned with a statue of St. Anne, affectionately known as Santhana Matha. Inspired by their devotion, they established a small palm-leaf chapel with seven Catholic families under the pastoral care of priests from the Nanguneri mission. As the congregation grew, the church was expanded beginning in 1962, and the present church building was solemnly consecrated on September 16, 1979, by Bishop Ambrose. Following the creation of Karungadal as an independent parish in 2021, Kattarimangalam became one of its subsidiary chapels. Today, the church serves around 80 Catholic families and continues to be an important center of Marian devotion in the region.
