About St. Mary’s Church, Agiamur

St. Mary’s Church, Agiamur, is a historic Catholic mission center located in the Godda District of Jharkhand. Originally part of the Poreyahat parish, the mission developed under the dedicated service of Fr. Stanislaus Murmu TOR, who became the first resident priest at Agiamur from 1969 to 1976.

The church building was constructed through the efforts of Fr. Benvenute TOR. Later, Fr. Thomas Vetticad became the first diocesan priest appointed to serve the community. The parish continued to grow under the leadership of several priests, including Fr. James Alumkal (1993–1997), Fr. Clement Besra (1998–2002), and Fr. Chacko Kumpalamchira (2002 onwards).

According to the parish baptismal records, St. Mary’s Church has recorded more than 2,348 baptisms. As per the annual statistics submitted to the Holy See in 2006, the parish serves approximately 1,750 Catholics belonging to around 350 families.

Located about 90 km from Bhagalpur, St. Mary’s Church, Agiamur, continues its mission of faith formation and pastoral service. The parish has also contributed several priestly and religious vocations to the Church.
