Parish Priest – Rev. Fr. Franklin Fernando.
Church Established – 1552.

Brief History:

The original chapel at Punnaickayal predated St. Francis Xavier‘s arrival in the region. A substantial stone church was constructed in 1552 by Henry Henriques, dedicated to Mary’s nativity. The church was destroyed during an attack in 1553 and subsequently rebuilt. By 1599, it became a three-section cruciform structure after receiving permission from the Madurai Nayak to construct stone temples in the region. This ancient church stands as one of the earliest Catholic establishments in the Tuticorin Diocese.
