Brief History:

The shrine has deep historical significance within Tamil Catholic heritage. A major mission center was established in 1684 at Kamnayakkampatti in South Tamil Nadu, extending to Rajapur with branch churches including Antippatti. The church was constructed in 1630 and the altar was built in 1713 by Father Beschi (Veeramamuniver), who was arrested in 1714 and later became instrumental in developing Tamil Christian literature. The shrine is known for reported miracles, particularly an oil phenomenon where oil began oozing from the ground near the Mother’s statue starting January 30, 2016, continuing for several days and attracting pilgrims. The church serves 60 families and the feast is celebrated August 30-September 8 over ten days.
