Brief History:

Holy Refuge Mother Church, Athukkudi, has a history spanning approximately 130 years. Originally under the Pondicherry–Cuddalore Archdiocese from 1899, it transitioned through several jurisdictions — including the Kumbakonam Diocese and Madras Mylapore Archdiocese — before being associated with Mayiladuthurai Parish in 1931. It was elevated to an independent parish in 1944 and has operated under the Thanjavur Diocese since 1952. The church is known as a refuge for those in sorrow, and the annual feast of Our Lady of Refuge is celebrated in the first week of May.
