Brief History:

Holy Refuge Mother Church, Kulappenpatty, traces its origins to the 18th century when Jesuit missionaries brought Christianity to this region. The village name means “educated women,” reflecting the early conversion and devotion of its women residents through missionary work during the Elakurissi mission period. The original palm-leaf chapel was replaced by a stone structure approximately 100 years ago, then by an asbestos-roofed building in 1976. The present modern church was consecrated on April 27, 2016, by the bishops of the Tanjore and Kumbakonam dioceses. The parish serves 217 families and observes a special first Saturday of each month procession and Eucharistic benediction.
