Brief History:

About 150 years ago, when Ratnapuram had been part of the Cathedral parish, St. Xavier’s chuch used to be a small chapel. In 1962 Fr. Alphonse Maria Kagoo, as the parish priest of the Carhedral, destroyed this church to build a school. In the time of Bishop Thomas, lands were purchased in view of making this a parish. When Fr. Lambert Miranda was parish priest of the Cathedral, Bishop Ambrose laid foundation for the new church in 1973. Monsignor Stephendas in 1974 built the altar as well as the Sacristy. Fr. Gabriel built the compound around the church and Fr. Job de Rose completed the work with funds from the people of Ratnapuram and foreign countries. On the 20 th of December 1986 Bishop Amalnather consecrated the new church. Since 1990 Fr. Gerald have been in-charge of this church before it became a parish. At that time Fr. Lambert Miranda initiated the efforts to lay foundation for the rectory. In July 1992 the new parish was established with Fr. Gabriel as its first parish priest. On the 29 th of June 1993 Fr. Paul Robinston became the second parish priest and in his time funds were raised to build a convent. Fr. Irudayaraj took responsibility as the fourth parish priest on the 4 th of June 1995 and he completed the work of the convent and school. Daily masses are celebrated at 6.30 am and 7.30 am .
