Brief History:
Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Thiruthuraipoondi, traces its origins to 1875 when a small thatched structure was built with an image of Our Lady of Lourdes. The parish was formally established in 1922 after being separated from Mannargudi. The current permanent church building was completely reconstructed beginning in 2007 and consecrated in 2009. The parish serves approximately 950 families across 27 sub-parishes and maintains several educational institutions. The annual feast of Our Lady of Lourdes begins with flag hoisting on February 2 and continues for ten days.
