About the Church:

Aragate is 8 km away from Ranchi. In 1980 the Capuchin Fathers, residing in a rented house in the city, purchased 5 acres of land in view of starting a parish and a formation house. Capuchin Ashram, rechristened as Kripa Sadan, was inaugurated on 13th June 1982 by Most Rev. Pius Kerketta, S.J.

The parish, dedicated to St. Francis of Assisi, has a population of over 4000 Catholics. There are four village mission centres at Baheya, Barkumba, Jonha and Jobla and two religious congregations of Nuns working in the parish, namely

  • The Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ: engaged in health, school and village ministry and
  • Clarist Franciscan Missionaries of the Most Blessed Sacrament: run a Hindi medium primary school, a health centre and are fully involved in socio-development and faith formation work. Both these congregations are engaged in health, school and socio-development and faith formation services. A new parish church constructed by the Capuchins was blessed in 1987.
